Every student, known down to the smallest detail.

Aletheia Education is a private admissions consultancy led by Heather Barclay — twenty years of senior admissions work, more than 1,500 placements at the world's most selective universities, and a single principle: authentic, original, deeply prepared students get in. Our Philosophy

Aletheia means truth — unconcealment, the revealing of what is.

Our work begins with the patient, intimate listening it takes to find a student's real story — the differentiator that defines their authentic contribution to the world — and ends with an application package built from scratch to spotlight it.

We do not template. We do not formulaic. We never treat an application as a checklist. Each one is the most important story a student will tell about themselves at this stage of life. Every admission is earned by the work itself.

What we offer.

End-to-end strategy across the admissions arc — and the long, patient work of building students whose applications already speak for themselves before they're submitted.

i.

Strategic Admissions Advisory

End-to-end strategy for every step of the admissions cycle — school-list architecture, narrative positioning, interview preparation, and final school selection. Year-over-year refinement for families pursuing multi-year roadmaps.

ii.

Essay Craft & Personal Statement Development

Original ideation and multi-round development of Common Application essays, school-specific supplementals, and graduate-level statements of purpose. Each essay is built from a deep brainstorming process that surfaces the story no one else has thought to tell.

iii.

Bespoke Academic Roadmapping

Multi-year academic plans aligned to a student's target institutions and intended fields — AP, IB, and A-Level course strategy; independent study curricula; honors and dual-enrollment planning.

iv.

Research & Publication Matchmaking

Identification and brokering of original research, peer-reviewed publication, and competition opportunities across STEM, social sciences, humanities, and the arts. Many Aletheia students publish, present, and place internationally before they apply.

v.

Competitive Writing Coaching

John Locke Essay Competition, NYT Writing Contest, Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Sewanee Young Writers' Conference, and others — with multiple award winners and Very High Commendation recipients annually.

vi.

Boarding School Admissions

Specialist preparation for elite U.S. boarding school admissions — Andover, Exeter, Choate, Lawrenceville, Deerfield, Groton, St. Paul's, Hotchkiss, Milton, and beyond. SSAT and TOEFL preparation, parent interview coaching, waitlist advocacy.

vii.

Interview Preparation

Targeted preparation for university, MBA, J.D., medical school, Vericant, boarding school, and F-1/J-1 visa interviews — mock interviews, voice and presence coaching, language-specific support.

viii.

Parent Coaching & Educational Advocacy

Direct parent coaching, family advisement, and educational advocacy — especially for families navigating cross-cultural educational systems, F-1 strategy, and bilingual family dynamics.

About Heather

Senior consulting, personally led.

"Every student who walks through her door is, from that moment, one of her own — known down to the smallest detail, championed without reservation, and held to the same exacting standards she has long set for students at Harvard."

Heather Barclay founded Aletheia Education in 2003. Harvard-educated (MA, European and American History, full scholarship and stipend) with doctoral studies at the University of Toronto (full scholarship, stipend, and teaching appointment), she brings a humanist's eye to admissions storytelling — and more than two decades of senior consulting across K–12, undergraduate, MBA, JD, and PhD admissions.

Her work pairs expansive admissions analytics with the kind of patient, intimate listening that surfaces the story no one else has thought to tell. She has taught and led schools across Tokyo, Seoul, and Beijing, served as Senior Editor at EssayEdge, contributed original research to the Harvard Pluralism Project, and is a published travel and academic writer. She has also served as senior consultant and special advisor to many of China's most reputable educational firms, supporting their most complex and competitive cases.

Heather is an active member of the Harvard Alumni Association — the body responsible for interviewing prospective Harvard candidates worldwide — and maintains a wide professional network across top universities, boarding schools, and admissions associations. A dual US and Canadian citizen, she is based in Nashville and works with students worldwide.

The Aletheia Process

Six phases, built from scratch.

The Aletheia process is proprietary — refined over more than two decades and thousands of cases. It pairs expansive admissions analytics with deeply personal engagement at every stage.

Phase One

Discovery & Family Intake

Extensive sessions to know the student and family deeply — academic history, interests, values, family story, aspirations. Nothing is rushed.

Phase Two

Strategic Positioning

Mapping the student's differentiator against the admissions landscape — identifying the angles and academic narratives that will move committees.

Phase Three

Academic & Activities Roadmap

The year-by-year roadmap of coursework, research, competitions, summer programs, and impact projects required to bring the narrative to life.

Phase Four

Application Craft

Original ideation and multi-round development of every essay, supplemental, and activity description. Senior editorial review at every stage.

Phase Five

Final Preparation & Submission

School-list finalization, interview preparation, recommendation strategy, supporting-document review, and the final submission window.

Phase Six

Decisions, Waitlist & Enrollment

Senior advocacy through decision season, waitlist letters and outreach, financial-aid negotiation, and final enrollment counsel.
